Well that didn’t last long…
On May 13th 2025, the Nintendo Gamecube Switch 2 Controller went on sale for Nintendo Switch Online account owners. After a few hours the controller was sold out.
The process was honestly quite simple. You waited in a queue once you signed in to your account and clicked the Nintendo Gamecube Switch 2 Controller to purchase. After a while (usually 2-5 minutes depending on the time of day you tried) it would let you purchase, go to checkout cart, and pay. The website did not crash (Thank God).
It took, however, over 5 hours to finally get a purchase email confirmation. The controller was limited to one per account. I recieved my email confirmation late last night.
According to the Official Nintendo of America website, From 5/8/25 – 5/12/25, limited to Nintendo Switch 2 early purchase access invitation recipients. Starting 5/13/25, open to paid Nintendo Switch Online membership holders. Limit one purchase per Nintendo Account. Offer not available in all countries or for free trial memberships.
The controller is optional and not required to play the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection of games. System update required. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership required to access Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection of games.
